Chris Bidwell, 20, from Glasgow, Ky., has been practicing martial arts most of his life, focusing on Hapkido. When he came to WKU he decided to try a fencing class, and is in a parkour club comprised mostly of Western students.
I think the first portrait has a much better mood to it, but at the same time I think it could be better. What if you shot it straight on and really tight on his face with the sword going down the middle? Have him tilt his head down a little so he's looking up at you and fill in some of the shadows on his face. I know this is kind of after the fact, but I think you could make a really cool portrait for yourself that way. Just my two cents.
I agree with Tanner but I think that both of your portraits are solid attempts. And on the first one, I know that I have centered some of my portraits but be careful when you do it, I don't think it really works with this photograph. And I wish you could see the mask a little bit more, it took me a second to figure out what sport he was meant to play.
